Ready for Strategic Decision? (Signs of Strategic Competency)

Ready for Strategic Decisions?

A couple of days ago, I talked about the importance of delegating at a higher level as you yourself reach a higher level of leadership. But how do you know when your team members are ready to start learning to make strategic decisions?

Here are a few signs that someone may need a bit of coaching:

❌ If their reasons for decisions focus on consequences to their own team but not to business goals or customer impact, they may need coaching.

❌ If their exploration of cause and effect concentrates on short-term consequences but not into future quarters or years, they may need coaching.

❌ If their defense of a decision appeals only to one business goal while ignoring or overlooking the impact on other goals, they may need coaching.

❌ If they regularly defer to others or abandon their own proposals at the first sign of resistance, they may need coaching.

❌ If their evaluation of other people’s ideas and perspectives is dismissive rather than empathetic, they may need coaching.

Coaching your team members to make better strategic decisions is part of your evolving and expanding leadership role. If you’d like a thinking partner so you can become a more effective coach for your team members, let’s talk. Visit stevedwire.com/talk to start the conversation.
