“Wherever you go, there you are.”
It sounds silly because it’s so obvious, but there is something profound hidden in that statement.
Many times, I’ll be in a conversation with someone, talking about work-specific challenges. As they gain new self-awareness, they’ll recognize a pattern in their behavior – something that creates friction with their colleagues and gets in the way of their own success.
One of the next realizations is often either a) that they suspect that the same personal tendency is likely to be contributing to friction at home, or b) that they suddenly recall that their spouse has been trying to point out this tendency to them and they just couldn’t see it until now.
The profound truth is, wherever you go, there YOU are. The traits and habits that contribute to friction may show up with different evidence in different places, but you always bring yourself everywhere you go.
If you’d like the kind of help my other clients have had to uncover your own correctable patterns and habits, let’s talk. Visit stevedwire.com/talk for a complimentary conversation.
