He walked toward me with his head down, his brow furrowed, the corners of his mouth turned down.
I didn’t know him. He was apparently someone who lives in our neighborhood, walking around the block the opposite direction I was walking.
I simply said, “Good morning.” I waved and smiled as we approached.
His scowl dissolved, and his face lit up. We passed each other without another word.
This was just the most recent occurrence, but this scenario happens over and over again. You may not think others see you as a leader in your workplace. But when you influence someone, you’re showing leadership.
And you can start with something as simple as a smile.
