Running in the rain with jeans; when your purpose is stronger than your excuses

Musing for:

Running in the rain with jeans

My wife and I often see a young lady running in our neighborhood. She wears loose-fitting jeans and a t-shirt.

Not exactly the optimal clothing for performance or comfort.

But a couple of days ago, I came home from a dentist appointment in pouring rain.

And there was our neighborhood runner.

Running.

In the rain.

Wearing jeans.

My first thought was, “not me.”

If I tried to start a habit of running, rain would be a convenient excuse to skip a day. And I’m the kind of person that wants to have the right equipment – the right kind of running shorts and shoes. For me, part of taking on an identity is wearing the costume.

But she doesn’t let such trivial things stop her.

I’ve never met this young lady, but I know one thing about her. When it comes to running, her purpose is stronger than her excuses.

What purpose is so strong that it overpowers your excuses?
