Minor pivot = Major change in perspective

Musing for:

Minor pivot = Major shift in perspective

A few years ago I revisited the campus of my alma mater. My brain had a whirlwind of a time processing it.

As I stood and gazed north, everything looked exactly as it had when I attended in the late ’80s and early ’90s. The same dorms. The same bell tower. The same cracks in the concrete.

Then I turned about 20 degrees to the right. Everything was different.

Sprawling buildings I didn’t recognize had sprung up where walkways once were. Styles were similar but more elaborate than the ones from my time there.

I couldn’t believe I was on the same campus.

The same thing happens with our view of our lives and the world. A small pivot can completely change how we understand what’s around us.

❌ They never listen to anything I say.
✅ My communication style isn’t reaching them.

❌ I want the kind of work I can be proud of.
✅ I want to be proud of the work I do.

❌ I don’t have time to do that.
✅ I use my time for things I see as more important.

With a new perspective often comes new freedom, flexibility and opportunity you didn’t see before.

What’s your minor pivot?
